Who We Are.
Hello
I am Gareth and I am the face behind Break on Through Adventures. The idea of the company came from my passion of sharing experiences of climbing and the mountains and helping to develop people to be able to enjoy their own adventures. The name comes from one of my favourite sea cliff climbs, called "break on through" on my local crag, Lower Sharpnose Point.

I discovered climbing while on a school residential trip to mid-wales when about 12 years old and have been climbing ever since. I started work in the outdoor industry at 19 years old. Initially working at an indoor climbing wall where I instructed and coached all ability levels, from complete novices, through to youth climbers competing at a national level. While studying Outdoor leadership and coaching at university in Buxton I started doing more work in the outdoor environment. I started working with outdoor climbing groups on the grit stone edges of the peak district as well as DofE groups and teaching navigation on the moors of the peak district and the mountains of Snowdonia and the Lake District.

In recent years I have lead overseas expeditions to climb mountains such as Mount Toubkal and Kilimanjaro in Africa, to summit Mount Elbrus in Russia and to the Himalayas to visit Everest base camp and Summit multiple 6000m peaks including Mera Peak at nearly 6500m.
While not working, I spend as much of my time climbing as possible and enjoy it in all its forms. I have climbed extensively in the UK, from the sunny sea cliffs of Cornwall and the South West, the harsh gritstone edges of the peak district, to the high mountain crags of North Wales and the Lake District. When possible, I also like to go and test myself against the cold, harsh environment of the Scottish Highlands in the winter.

I have Bouldered up to 7B+, Onsited Trad climbs up to E4 and headpointed E6, lead sport climbs of 7c and climbed 4000m peaks in the french Alps and 6000m peaks in the Himalayas.

I am a holder of the Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor Award, the Summer Mountain Leader and Rock Climbing Instructor qualifications and am a full member of both the Association of Mountaineering Instructors and the Mountain Training Association.
​
I am also a Winter Mountain Leader trainee.
